Totem No. 2 is my bow to the many forms and symbols of spiritual ritual—prayer flags, bells, crowns, Shinto shide, and other objects that mark, celebrate, protect, or connect us to something beyond ourselves.
I’m interested in how these familiar symbols can be taken out of their original contexts and recombined into something new. This totem is part ritual object, part imagined character, and part sculpture—standing tall, cool, and radiating its own kind of energy, sound, and movement.
Shown in “Artists Invite Artists” at Prince Street Gallery, New York, January 2022.
