Artist friends shared with me how the limitations of shelter-in-place led them to experiment outside their usual medium. Over the past four months of isolation and experimentation with sumi-e ink, black paint, and oil stick, I discovered how a brushstroke of paint, a dash of sumi-e ink, and abstract marks on paper can enter the mind and heart in ways that resonate authentically.
Each painting has a unique characteristic and energy. Some are more minimal, while others have an aliveness that looks as if they painted themselves.
